I’ve heard too much about Joel and his lack of emphasis on sin, on Christ, and his focus on what God can do for you. He only focuses on half of the truth…and another word for that is a lie, because he is trying to send a different message.
He says something on this video about how “increase and promotion” are in your future. So did the apostles get “promoted” when they were martyred?
He talks about keeping a positive attitude and that your “marked moments” are on the way. How about when the Bible says anyone who desires to live a Godly life will be persecuted? Yes - God blesses people, but as He chooses and in His way - sometime something that looks like hardship can be a blessing. He is NOT a vending machine - push the right buttons and get what you want.
He talks about inspiring people to rise higher and not wanting to beat them down. But showing people our need for God and our depravity without Him is truth - saying a positive attitude will get you a great job, house, and car is garbage.
He’s a pastor and he just said his gift is not explaining the scriptures?!
I agree with the guy that said he uses the Bible as a fortune cookie.
Joel says he is giving people hope, and what’s so dangerous about that. BUT he is giving them hope that “the good life is on the way,” as opposed to “with Christ you can go through anything.”
He says he is keeping the message simple - but he isn’t simplifying it, he’s distorting it.

He is a motivational speaker- not a pastor/preacher. I appreciate his intent, but his “soundbyte theology” is scary and wrong.
He should be on tour to get people fired up, not preaching at a church- that involves explaining the scriptures.
